We strongly feel that in order for Angus to remain the dominant beef breed, we must make sure our genetics will insure the commercial rancher the most pounds of beef his grass can produce. A showier profile, a prettier head or a more attractive hair coat is no substitute for pounds of beef created through enhanced efficiency. Our goal is to make a calf that is born easy, has the will to live, the ability to grow and has a Momma that can not only survive but thrive on range and a Daddy that can breed a large group of cows while maintaining body condition and continues to be sound for years of service. Is this too much to ask for? We don’t think so. An anorexic gay, yearling bull walking on three legs is worse than worthless. Range Rugged Genetics are priceless to the commercial rancher so we emphasize good doing cattle and leave the show ring to others.

Stenberg Destroyer joined our bull battery in 2009. Destroyer is sired by MF Destroyer. His pedigree is a “Who’s Who” of the angus breed. His mother is a sister to 509 out of an 878 cow with 10 Pathfinders on her papers. Destroyer has the pedigree, look, and performance of a future great sire. Use him to produce very thick fast growing, heavy muscled mid 6 frame cattle.

OCC Montana Design as a working 3 year old on range

Our herd sire, OCC Montana Design is a power bull sired by WCC Special Design out of the proven cow, Montana Dream who rationed 113 on six calves. OCC Montana Design was bred by Mack Olson. Mack showed this bull at the Northern International Livestock Expedition and won Junior Reserve Grand Champion. He later went on to be the highest performing bull in Mack’s 2005 calf crop. This bull had a 77 lbs birth and a 859 lbs weaning, with incredible disposition, phenotype, and libido. We feel that Montana Design will become a future “Breed Changer”. His calves are exceptionally long and deep with a lot of style and a long “Ground Eating” stride that enables them to cover a lot of ground, very important for you rough country ranchers. We have used him on heifers with excellent results. He is truly a power bull with the ability to produce both, calves for the bull pen with incredible length and also very fancy replacement heifers with awesome milking and udders. He sires very sharp 6 frame cattle.

Davis YR Blackbird 558H was sold at Auction in 2004 for $520,000.00 558H is the mother of J Bar Stenberg Ranch’s herd sire, Riverbend Design 1407 4145.

Our herd bull battery includes Riverbend Design 4145 who is sired by New Design 1407 and his dam is Davis YR Blackbird 558H. This bull is having a very positive impact on our females, with perfect udders and capacity.
